New DelhiThe first three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) of the forthcoming multi-format white-ball series against New Zealand will not feature star Indian batter Tilak Varma. Notably, the Men in Blue will play five Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals against the Black Caps.
Tilak Varma will not be available to India for the first three Twenty20 Internationals prior to the series. Interestingly, Tilak is currently recovering from surgery for an abdominal problem. Tilak had the surgery on January 7 and was released from the hospital early on January 8, according to a statement from the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
The star batter's availability for the final two Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand will also be evaluated based on how well he recovers.
"After his symptoms have completely subsided and his wounds have healed satisfactorily, Tilak will resume physical training and progressively return to skill-based activities. He will not play in the first three Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand. His progress during the return-to-training and skill phases will determine his availability for the final two games, according to a release from the BCCI.
India's NZ series is scheduled to begin on January 11.Regarding the forthcoming series between India and New Zealand, there will be three ODI matches to start the series. The dates of the games are January 11, 14, and 18. In addition, the T20I matches are scheduled for January 21, 23, 25, 28, and 31.
Tilak Varma's injury could be a major setback for the Men in Blue as the T20 World Cup approaches. But with the major tournament coming up, the team would continue to hope for his timely return.
