Following the squad announcement, a number of fans expressed their confusion over the exclusion of star batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad from the ODI squad.
Gaikwad has been playing exceptionally well lately; in the second ODI of India's most recent series against South Africa, he even scored a century. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan spoke out about why he wasn't chosen.
"These 11 players might not be the same as those competing in the T20 World Cup. This team does not include any players who will play in the 2026 T20 World Cup, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shreyas Iyer. We used to discuss having two distinct teams for various formats. Pathan emphasized how crucial communication is.Additionally, Pathan discussed the value of maintaining open lines of communication with individuals such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and the potential benefits of doing so.
It all comes down to how you interact with someone like Gaikwad. The selectors will undoubtedly have communicated effectively, and if they haven't, it will be difficult for a player. We have also experienced circumstances in which the selectors have not communicated with us, and we sense what is happening. However, if there is communication, the picture is clear and there is space for a return," he stated.
