New DelhiSeveral new players have been added to Cricket South Africa's contracted squads for the 2026–2027 season. The awarding of first-time national contracts to Ottneil Baartman, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, and Karabo Meso is one of the major events. In addition to a hybrid contract for offspinner Simon Harmer, a total of eighteen men's and fifteen women's contracts have been awarded.
Twenty men's Players of National Interest who are thought to be the closest to joining the senior squad have also been identified in a different pool. Although they still have domestic contracts, these players are definitely on the national selection radar.
David Miller, who previously had a hybrid contract, is among the most noticeable absences. Although no official announcement has been made, his omission raises the possibility of a move away from international commitments. Since 2010, Miller has represented South Africa in franchise competitions across the globe.
Burger, Coetzee, and Lizaad are not on the list of people who have contracts.Rassie van der Dussen, another experienced player, has also been left out after his last game, which was during a tour of Australia. Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, and Lizaad Williams are all coming back from injuries, but they are not part of the contracted group. Reeza Hendricks and women's all-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx are also not part of the group.
The CSA said in a statement that "Our Road to 2027 and Beyond strategy also helped us choose the final players who have the right level of talent and attitude to help us reach our big goals of winning all major ICC events in the future."
South Africa's best fast bowlers, like Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje, are still on the team, but Anrich Nortje is still not in the contract system. The focus in the women's setup is now on the T20 World Cup. Dane van Niekerk has not been given a contract since returning to international cricket, but she is still in the running to be picked.
