Delhi, New Delhi:In the first ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India at the Gabba in Brisbane, Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth were left out. For the first time since India's incredible victory over the Australians in the 2025 ODI World Cup semifinal on their way to the championship, the two teams are facing off.
Both fast bowler Garth and all-rounder Perry have been ruled out of the entire ODI series because of quad injuries they suffered during the third Twenty20 International against India earlier, which is a major setback for Australia. After India chose to bat first, Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who was participating in her last ODI series before retiring, confirmed the news at the toss.
"Neither Garth nor Perry. I sustained some injuries during the third Twenty20 match. At the toss, Healy remarked, "I think those are the two significant changes. She would have bowled first anyhow, according to the Australian captain, who will retire following the Test match against India.
"Happy days. I wish I had been the first to bowl. We have the desired outcome, but we must undoubtedly get off to a strong start and take advantage of this new wicket. I'll say that it's been really, really unusual, but it's also been a lot of fun to kind of watch what's going to happen in a few games anyhow," Healy continued.
"So, it's good to be back and to feel pressure from the Indian side. We will need to put up a strong fight in this ODI series to regain some momentum because they have gotten off to a great start in the series. I simply think this series is off to a great start. Our one-day game is something we take great pride in. We enjoy these conditions and perform exceptionally well in them. "Hopefully, we can continue to do what we do really well, and hopefully that throws the first punch," she said.
Returning to India is Pratika Rawal. With Pratika Rawal back for India following her recovery from an ankle injury sustained during the ODI World Cup, India decided to bat instead. Shafali Verma, who is scheduled to start at No. 3 in place of Harleen Deol, is another player from India.
"We're going to bat first. We would be better off batting first today, in my opinion. For this reason, we collectively agreed to bat first. We all had a great time playing in the World Cup, so I feel like we have a chance today. Yes, there are some changes. Kashvee has returned to the team. After winning the toss, India captain Harmanpreet said, "And I'll give you my playing list so you just go through it."
