New DelhiDharmendra continued to be the epitome of vitality and energy well into his later years, in contrast to many celebrities who naturally slow down with age. Instead of relying on his former notoriety or occasionally working out, he adhered to five straightforward yet effective habits that he maintained for decades.
Dr. Amit Kohli, Dharmendra's physiotherapist, stated in a recent interview with Health Shots that these "pillars" were essential to the legendary actor's continued strength throughout his 80s and into the last phase of his life.
1. Moving daily
Persistence in moving was one of the most important habits. Dr. Kohli claims that Dharmendra never allowed inertia to take hold. Dharmendra made it a point to move every day, whether it was through light exercise, swimming, or gentle stretching. Even on days when his energy was low, he continued to be active.
2. Easy, homemade meals
Dharmendra, a Desi at heart, favored homemade, fresh, healthful food over ostentatious diets. His lifelong passion for farming led to his straightforward diet, which not only provided him with energy but also significantly contributed to his general well-being.
3. Physical activity suitable for one's age
Dharmendra followed his routine based on what felt natural to him as his body aged. The actor switched from intense gym workouts to more body-friendly techniques like physiotherapy, mobility exercises, and mild strength training. This prevented him from overexerting himself while maintaining muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, and general agility.
4. Reliability rather than intensity
Sustainability, not rigorous diets or intense training, was the key. Dr. Kohli emphasizes that a steady, sustainable groove was more important than sporadic bursts of intense effort. Over decades, that steady rhythm produced better long-term outcomes than any transient, fleeting intensity.
5. A happy, "Zinda-Dil" attitude
One of the key factors that kept Dharmendra resilient throughout his life was his mindset. He had a childlike spirit even at the age of 89. He was always young at heart because of his positive outlook and enthusiasm for life. Dharmendra would persevere and say, "Chalo, thoda karte hain," even on trying days. Haar nahi maanni.
Due to age-related health issues, Dharmendra died in Mumbai at the age of 89. Sriram Raghavan's final big-screen appearance will be in Ikkis. On December 25 of this year, the movie will be released.
