New Delhi:This isn't your typical banner. The sacred flag is triangular in shape, about ten feet tall and twenty feet long, and is composed of material that exudes solemnity and simplicity.
A bright sun is emblazoned on its saffron field, signifying the courage and intelligence of Lord Rama. The eternal spiritual vibration of the cosmos is evoked by the inscription of a "Om." And there’s also the image of the Kovidara tree, a touch rooted deeply in epic tradition.
Raising a "dhwaja" (flag) in Hindu ritual tradition denotes the triumph of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (unrighteousness), serving as a reminder that this is more than just architecture but a spiritual proclamation.
North and South Architectural Harmony
The main spire of the temple, which was constructed in the traditional Nagara style of North Indian temple architecture, is where the flag is raised.
However, the surroundings show a more expansive architectural vision: the 800-meter-long parkota (outer enclosure) of the temple complex is built in a South-Indian style.
The blending of styles speaks to a unity in diversity, much like the flag itself aims to represent.
An Exceptionally Fortunate Day
The timing of the hoisting ceremony is deeply meaningful. It falls on Vivah Panchami, the day that is commemorated as Lord Rama and Sita's divine nuptials.
The Prime Minister's Office claims that the time also coincides with Hindu astrology's auspicious Abhijit Muhurat.
Adding to the spiritual significance, November 25 also marks the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, who, according to historical accounts, meditated in Ayodhya for 48 hours in the 17th century.

A Message of Harmony and Heritage
The flag "will convey a message of dignity, unity, and cultural continuity, embodying the ideals of Ram Rajya," according to PM Modi's office.
This is a deeply symbolic act intended to resonate across communities, generations, and belief systems rather than merely being a political or civic event.
Who Will Attend?
There are multiple acts involved in the ceremony. It will be witnessed by dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister , and RSS Chief .
Their presence underscores the magnitude of the day, not just for Ayodhya, but for the entire nation.
A Journey Finished and a New Beginning
Two significant events in the temple's recent history are connected by PM Modi's role today. He oversaw the Ram Lalla idol's consecration in January 2024 after laying the foundation stone in August 2020.
Now, by hoisting this flag, he symbolically completes the temple’s journey and, in many hearts, heralds a new chapter of spiritual unity.
