New DelhiAfter going unsold in the previous auction cycle, he returns to the Delhi Capitals for 2026 with a renewed sense of purpose. Shaw's 304 runs from 16 innings during the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons demonstrated his decline in form, which ultimately led to his dismissal. He was eventually cut from the Mumbai team for the 2024β25 season as his domestic cricket form deteriorated.
Shreyas Iyer, one of Mumbai's captains, openly stated that Shaw needed to change his attitude and discipline in order to return to the team. But shortly after, the 26-year-old decided to start over in his cricket career by leaving Mumbai cricket and joining Maharashtra. Speaking about his quest for self-discovery, Shaw said he loved life, put a lot of effort into his game, and mentally prepared himself to return.
I will make mistakes because I am a human: Shaw"I had a great time in life. I traveled to a few places to give myself a mental break. After that, I returned and continued with the same regimen: I worked hard and practiced. I started doing it three times, whether it was batting or training. Additionally, I believe it was a beneficial break for me. I can't claim to have retreated. I needed that break to make myself mentally strong,β Shaw said on the sidelines of DCβs intra-squad practice match on Thursday.
Shaw suggests that the break may have provided more than just physical healing, as evidenced by a change in perspective brought about by removing oneself from the spotlight.
"I will make mistakes because I am a human. They obviously only understand half of what is written or said in public. Every time you see [such stuff], you come [back for more], so I stopped seeing them. My family and friends are well-informed about me. When positive or negative things used to come [about me] on social media or in the newspapers, I was obviously too young [to understand them].
"I was kept away from all of these [cricket-related] things by those things. I believed in myself. Because I am aware of my background and the amount of effort I have put in. Humans make mistakes. It's okay, go on. Shaw continued, "I feel [now] is the time when mentally I get a lot of happiness to come to the ground. All that is history, and it happened many years ago."
Shaw will compete with Pathum Nissanka Abishek Porel and Sahil Parakh at Delhi for the top spot in the order. is the other opener, as has already been confirmed. Notably, the team's season begins on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow against the Lucknow Super Giants.
