MumbaiAfter scoring just 11 runs off 14 balls on Tuesday, Ayushi Soni of the Gujarat Giants became the first batter to be retired out in the Women's Premier League (WPL). Even though Harleen Deol scored 47 runs off 36 balls, few anticipated that the incident would recur the very next day. When UP Warriorz's head coach, Abhishek Nayar, decided to retire her, the batter was also taken aback because the team was in a good position.
Harleen had earlier put together an 85-run partnership with captain Meg Lanning while batting at a strike rate of 130.56. In order to give Chloe Tryon a chance to score quickly in the final three overs of the innings, Nayar retired Deol at the end of the 17th over after the latter was removed in the 16th. The decision shocked Deol as well, and she returned to the dugout feeling let down.
Abhishek Nayar is criticized by fans for making a "stupid decision."But the Warriorz lost all of their momentum in the innings, so the move proved to be a mistake. After Deol retired, they were 141/4 and lost four more wickets while scoring just 13 runs in the final three overs. The UP Warriorz supporters were also unhappy with the choice because they believed Deol, a set batter, could have had a greater impact and helped the team score more than 160.
One of the supporters made fun of Abhishek Nayar, the head coach, for the team's lackluster performance thus far in the competition, even though many others thought it was a stupid choice.
These are a few of the responses:Even though the UP Warriorz finished on 154 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs, Meg Lanning earlier scored a half-century for the uninitiated. They appeared to have scored more than 170 runs at one point, but the Warriorz's decision to retire Harleen Deol backfired.
